Freedom riders
If Hollywood were to remake the Freedom Riders documentary, I think they would butcher it. There is nothing like a primary source to describe the event in their own words. The documentary really captured the victim's emotions and struggles they faced on their freedom ride. Hollywood is all about giving the audience what they want. Even if the movie is based on a true story, Hollywood would alter the true story, ultimately this would give the wrong story to the audience. Watching the people that were actually part of the Freedom riders was touching, it showed that they not only cared but they took action because of the persecution. The many of the participants did not care what sacrifices they had to make towards their goal, many dropped out of college and many were willing to sacrifice their physical and mental welfare for the cause. It was incredible that they signed a paper stating that they knew the ricks of going on the freedom rides. The reason I am against Hollywood making this into a movie, is because I've seen the differences between reading an article about an event compared to watching a movie based on the event. It was like two whole different stories, Hollywood drifted to far from the actual story. The freedom rider's experience is something only the people that took part of it really know, I don't think that anyone else can portray the events like they had done in the video. Movies are great but turning such a tragic and unbelievable event into a movie for profit is wrong.

Parenting
These days it seems people are not as strict with their kids as they used to be. It almost irks me when I see parents victims of their own child's tantrums. I believe that parents must take control of their children, and in a way "show them who's boss". Although I believe that punishment is a necessary technique to raise a child, I think that traditional methods of sending kids in to their rooms is now ineffective. With all the technology its almost a privilege to be sent into their rooms. Although this problem can be solved by taking away all the play things that are in the room. My friend John's mom keeps track of his grades through the sapphire system, seeing that he was doing very poorly in Pre-calcusus she took away his computer, pretty much this forces him to do work since he has nothing else to do. Parents need to show how the superior is and not give into their child's way every time just because they do not want to deal with the short-term annoyance; this will ultimately form a long-term spoiled child. Parents should hold high esteems but they should keep it realistic. My mom used to watch kids for a family friend. The dad when picking up the kids would always ask if the kids were well-behaved; if so at the end of the week he would give his son a toy car of his choice. I thought this was a good trade, behave and be rewarded. My parents however did not raise us like this, my mom played the bad cop, and my dad the good cop. My mom ruled with an iron fist, she was not afraid to discipline us with her fist; she did not beat us but enough to make us remember. My dad was the person to go to after being discipline by my mom. When I am a parent I will send my kids to many of after school classes to take up their time while being proactive. I would do this because this way they have less time to play video games and spend time on unnecessary things (I learned this due to my own experiences). I would expect the best from my kids but if it is something that they have seriously put time and effort but still can not accomplish their goal; I will be satisfied that they tried.

Joe's modern racism blog
Obviously racism in America has decreased since the times of the Freedom Riders and the time period To Kill a Mocking Bird is taken place in. However it is still a problem that exists. Racism now is sprinkled lightly throughout the United States. Many people still hold racists beliefs because of their ancestors racist roots; although this is truly sad, this is nailed and preached into the children at a young age. This is not the only way people form a racist side, other events also spark a racist belief in people too. 9/11 a very tragic event, sadly sparked racist beliefs into many Americans towards Muslims. Just as the movie Gran Torino portrayed some war veterans hold a racist belief due to the terrible things war brings.
Racism has also become a lighter topic in today's world. Racism is often used as a comical subject in media. Jokes are now even labeled as Racist jokes, these jokes poke fun at races. Usually without trying to intentionally hurt someone's feeling, however some may take it the wrong way. As a minority I do come by racist jokes from friends, I am a person that does not take offense to racist jokes; and i do not really mind them. I feel that the biggest problem is racism due to generalization, often times a small group of people ruin a whole race for one person. Some of the most well known cases of this are hate towards Muslims due to Muslim extremist attacks around the world.
